And are fully onside with the idea that the highest level of benefit should be much worse than the lowest that can be gained from work. They're turning it into a stick to beat us with and it's immaterial if you've spent forty years working your arse off - you will now be classed as shiftless and idle once you claim.

@redsad@ohai.social it's a fine policy to have though. A secure and sensible place to live is where it begins. Without fear of 'can I find it can I afford it?' Once you have that you can think about looking for work, getting a bank account, finding addiction/health/whatever therapy and so forth.

@ChrisMayLA6@mastodon.me.uk I don't think I was ever quite that complacent, preferring to follow the maxim that "the price of liberty is constant vigilance" which needs to be allied with action, but you are quite correct. It's the wrong way round. And continuing down this path will inevitably lead to a place in which very very few wish to find themselves.

Numerous reasons why councillors and MPs from reform have shown themselves for what they are - the dog that caught the car. They talk a good game, but put them on the pitch and they're rubbish. Not that you'd actually want them to be effective and efficient.
