@peachfront@toot.community It ain't justice without a trial. It's just a war crime. It doesn't matter how we dress it up, we're the aggressor massacring hundreds of innocent people in order to interfere with another sovereign state's internal affairs. We're evil plain and simple.

I enjoyed that more than the highlights of his last week network TV.

@cstross@wandering.shop What's going on in Iran right now is what happens when you put murderous sanctions on a state and then fund an insurrectionary movement. There are moderate tendencies in Iran but unlike the brutal dictatorships of Syria, Saudi Arabia and the UAE they wouldn't support our genocide in Palestine and so we seek to start a civil war and put a monarchy back in power. Politely waiting for us to start bombing Iran just empowers those calling for further crackdowns in USA and your own Scotland

RE: https://mastodon.social/@hanshuebner/116200705070134380

I am also a software professional although I have only spent the last 26 years writing code almost daily. To me, the advent of LLM coding tools means that the job I have been doing so far is exactly the same. I'm still solving customer problems. The fundamentals haven't changed, only the contradictions have been heightened. LLM companies are merely over hyped unethical monsters in a world gone mad. This is still a capitalist meat grinder. #freepalestine #StopTheWarOnIran

My favourite new word at work is #prefactor as in, "Hey #claude Please prefactor the ugly code in this business logic feature change PR so that it is easier to read?"

The refactoring lands in a preparatory PR and everyone gets to review a much easier to understand business logic change follow-up PR.

I suspect the flow would get even nicer if I could find time to skill-up with claude on #jj (or possibly even better #SaplingSCM - since reviews are still the biggest bottleneck)

@nor4@chaos.social @hopeless@mas.to @pseudonym@mastodon.online maybe it works better as a sewage treatment plant analogy. Probably still full of microplastics though.

@malcolm@sns.internationalotaku.com @cstross@wandering.shop things regularly cycled between better and worse during the period i regularly visited 2008-2015. i know plenty of iranians who visited safely during that time. since the nuclear deal collapsed and sanctions started to tighten i agree that the tendency has been towards more and more repression. it's easy to imagine that Rouhani would have been able to reform society further if he hadn't been kneecapped by Trump.

@malcolm@sns.internationalotaku.com @cstross@wandering.shop ok, no sources, no worries. Drought is a documented fact as are decades of unrest as are 2018 "maximum pressure" sanctions and September 2025 snapback sanctions. The question is would things have been this bad without sanctions? Unrest was comparatively stable prior to 2018. Without sanctions Iran could have bought wheat on the international market and its industrial economy wouldn't have collapsed. There would have been unrest, but it wouldn't have been this extreme.

@malcolm@sns.internationalotaku.com @cstross@wandering.shop the rebellion is because US sanctions have put the economy into a death spiral. i suspect the lack of jobs and resulting malaise made taking money from Israel to fight the state seem very attractive for a large minority of the youth. pressure was building but if the nuclear talks had progressed in good faith under Trump 1, it would have probably have led to reform rather than civil war.

@cstross@wandering.shop @penel0pe@mastodon.social The sanctions were US instigated and led. We must suspect a significant portion of the lethal unrest is led and funded by US proxy Israel (they proved the capacity in the war last year and have been boasting about it this year). Iran was on a credible path to reform and normalization in 2014. It would have been slow and inter-generational but trade and diplomacy were healing relations internally and externally. US isn't responsible for everything bad, but it is for this.
