For the past few weeks, I’ve been making an iOS app called Kandili. It’s an app that brings to life the Orthodox liturgical calendar, readings, and feast days; with custom typography and handcrafted design. When my youngest turned 13 this weekend I created a venmo account. This is one of the things he looked forward to the most about being 13. After I did this, Venmo suspended my entire family’s accounts. What a thrilling birthday present to him!
Monday was my last day at Chewy. Taking a couple weeks before starting the *next thing*. My list of things to do in the in-between times is long, so not too worried about getting stir crazy.
Just fired up a Pixel phone to test an Android version of Kandili. Yowza! If you have any interest in beta testing it let me know!
I just heard about another company using take-home design assignments as a part of the interview process. This spec work is unethical and a terrible way to evaluate candidates. Immediate red flag. Get your free ideas somewhere else, bozos.

It’s been a couple weeks working on Kandili, with several updates and plenty more testflight builds. Here are my findings:
1) The App Store is 100% as inscrutable as it’s reputation.
2) Building apps is very fun. I get it now.
3) I’d forgotten how fun it is to have a little fun side project all my own.
