I may have to stop following the Swift hashtag because it's like 50% about the Swift programming language and 50% about Taylor Swift.

Someone should reboot Star Trek and the only change is that there’s no stupid mirror universe episodes.

Having doubts that the macOS Tapestry build will make it through TestFlight this weekend. It’s already been over 24 hours since I gave up and submitted a new build. I don’t get it.

Xcode gets very upset about running out of disk space - which is somewhat ironic since the reason I'm out of disk space is Xcode.

Water heater electric anode rod update: It's been 6 or so hours and the smell seems entirely gone now. Hopefully for good. (They promised within 24 hours, but of course we ran the hot for quite awhile, people took showers, dishwasher happened, etc.)

There's a line from the original radio version of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy that lives rent free in my head.
Zaphod and Roosta teleport to a party and it turned out all the dancers are robots and Roosta says something like,
"But there aren’t any real people here at all!"
For some reason that line has been stuck in my head forever. I haven't listened to it in years.
But now it basically describes much of the social web (like Reddit, etc).
Anyway, Douglas Adams was a prophet.

Hmm. Tapestry 2.0 release notes currently have 85 bullet points. And this is after I spent all day trying to curate it and trim.
No way this will fit in the App Store Connect box.

Every time I wash my hands I'm so happy the hot water doesn't smell terrible anymore.
Honestly, I thought it was just a little annoying that I could catch a whiff of it now and then but now that it no longer has any smell at all it's quite remarkable how bad it actually was and how much we had learned to just ignore it.

We raised the price of Tapestry with this release and some folks have wanted to know why.
We hardly ever raise our prices, so really, it's kind of a rare thing for us - but it was a necessity of survival.
That's it, really.
Feels like some out there are assuming we're just looking for funds to fill swimming pools with gold-plated iPhone Duos and float on them Scrooge McDuck style.
I mean, we'd all love to try that of course (who wouldn't), but lame things like food and shelter come first.

The really annoying thing though is that my water heater *is* electric. If an electrified anode rod is better, then why the hell didn’t it just come with one built in?! Shit like this drives me crazy.

BTW for people interested in this water heater anode rod topic, I got this brand of electric anode rod: https://www.corroprotec.com There are others, of course, but Menards had this one in stock. 🙂 (Bonus: Made in Canada - because I still love Canada despite what our current dumbass-in-chief says.)

So again.. WHY THE HELL ISN'T THIS JUST STANDARD ON AN ELECTRIC WATER HEATER IF ITS BETTER?!
Like.. wtf? There's already electricity going to my water heater! It would be *trivial* to install at the factory and seal it up never to even need to be opened again, tbh. And it's shorter and therefore less materials, too.
I don't get it.
Now I have a power brick *and* a hard wired wire going into my water heater.
Just... why?
So many appliance and home things are like this - patchwork.

Why are brains like this.

@Iconfactory@iconfactory.world @lewpiper@mastodon.social I don’t think you should need a new Bluesky app password for each individual device - just use the one app password for Tapestry on all devices. Possibly generating another one caused Bluesky to revoke access to prior ones but not totally sure.

Ok, so I had read into this before (like a month ago) and I swear I saw stuff saying it was a bacteria, but today looking more again (after the fact) and more sources seem to say its purely a chemical reaction. Well... whatever it is the electrified one is supposed to stop the process within 24 hours. 🤞

I didn't quite know what to expect when I removed the original anode rod - it was nearly as tall as the big tank (and me) and it hit the ceiling. I had to actually cut it in half to get it out because of course you can't just tip or move a water heater - it's all plumped in place with copper pipes and whatnot.
Bonkers design.
The new electric one is only like.. 13-14 inches long which seems... tiny.. but.. apparently is all that's needed with electrified ones and they say it lasts 20 years.

I'm terrified of the API implications, but the iPhone Duo *does* look pretty neat.
Also I want to point out that I came up with the idea of putting controls down the side of the screen instead of across the bottom for Tapestry and now Apple stole it.

I never got around to submitting a new build of Tapestry because I was too busy, but the macOS build is still in TestFlight review.
I submitted it Friday around 5pm and it's now past 5pm on Monday so it's been about 72 hours now. For a TestFlight build that only goes to registered testers, doesn't use real money, can be automatically audited to not use "bad" APIs, and is from a (hopefully) trusted developer.
I freely admit this build isn't super important - but this is, frankly, disrespectful.

That said, though, if you have a swimming pool of iPhone Duos you want to get rid of, just let me know and I'll gladly take them off your hands.
Assuming they're free, of course.
And then sell them on eBay because of the aforementioned need of food and shelter.
