I also really liked the summary of failure situations -- made me think that there could be, in principle, easy ways of folks providing info at the beginning of the year that would be incorporated into the pre-populated return, like number of dependents
@whitten@mas.to @katrinatransfem@mastodon.social These factors are important for many taxpayers, but as the paper shows the IRS can still impute returns accurately for close to half of taxpayers, and also half of those with inaccurate pre-populated returns just need to make a single change for an accurate return (like the details you mentioned).
