I just found out that #Forgejo changed its license from MIT to GPL v3 in 2024.

https://codeberg.org/forgejo/forgejo/commit/94631ccef67eb385f416feb9017214f3da99ab3a#diff-0398ccd0f49298b10a3d76a47800d2ebecd49859

Now, #IANAL but I think removing the copyright notice is a blatant violation of the MIT license of the earlier Gogs/Gitea/Forgejo code?

This #camera belonged to my grandfather, who has passed away almost 50 years ago. Light meter and mechanics still work flawlessly. Definitely built when things were still made to last…

I didn’t know until recently, but it is actually a proper rangefinder (like a #Leica you can drop a few grand on). That means there is a little ghost image of your subject in the viewfinder you can match up to focus.

Almost through my first roll. Will post the results here!

Last weekend I updated my skills ready for the post #AI age with a #sewing lesson.

I can now sew a button. It’s not much, but feels good.

@preya There is a wordplay joke on the product page which they translated into a different jokes in other languages. Which means they hired actual translators. That's also not a given this day and age. The fact that in the German translation the joke disappeared further proves this fact.

My aunt gave me a 50 year old Indonesian cookbook she used during a course way back.

I feel like a wizard finding an ancient spellbook.

It’s full of ingredients and spices I didn’t even know existed. Boy am I going to have fun with this.

If you are at #sotmeu25, be sure to check out the workshop for creating your own basemap with #MapLibre and Planetiler. 13:30 (1:30PM) @ Way.

Thanks @waysidemapping@mastodon.social for the picture of my lightning talk earlier. 😇

The Germans are on a roll, next talk is another custom Go server with from @woodpeck@en.osm.town. A way to query a public #PostGIS database called PostPass. Can be used with Overpass Turbo / Ultra.

Example: https://overpass-turbo.eu/s/2fuU

Really cool to see these innovations by #OSM veterans.

Long overdue, but I finally have a blog again! My first blog post is about my experience visiting #Berlin and hanging out with #DWeb.

https://louwers.dev/blog/tech-weekend-in-berlin/

Thanks @tmcw@mastodon.social for his article 'How to blog'. It kept me from falling in the all too familiar familiar trap to look for the perfect blogging solution, instead of keeping it simple so you can focus on writing. https://macwright.com/2019/02/06/how-to-blog

Still need a good way to handle images without pushing them all in a git repo. Advice welcome.

#Blogging

Replying to
@richlv@mastodon.social All much better than Google, but I think the shortest route is pretty much what you want here. You have two high throughput motorways on both sides, so this whole area will be super low traffic. The intelligent routers that prefer bike paths do slightly worse because they sacrifice distance for not riding on roads that technically allow cars (but are beautiful and will have very little traffic in practice).

On the second picture I nudged it with a stop on the way. Despite that, Google Maps' router decides it is a great idea to make a detour just to catch a bit of N618 (a main car road).

@ianthetechie@fosstodon.org That was pretty much the only point I disagreed with. But it's a give and take with these kinds of organization wide policies. What I think is most useful to know is which part of a PR was written with the help of AI. Because that parts needs the most skeptical eyes. Also I think prompts may help us retrace our steps and regenerate or modify parts of the same code in the future. Lastly, some models produce better or worse results than others.

@richlv@mastodon.social @fschaap@mastodon.social Frank, please be a bit more respectful on Mastodon when interacting with people. I am pretty sure you wouldn't walk up to people in real life and say "X is crap". OpenStreetMap is not an alternative to Google Maps. OpenStreetMap is a community that gathers map data and a dataset. There is a simple map on the website, but it is not an end-user application like Google Maps. There are many apps that use OpenStreetMap data, try starting with something simple like Organic Maps.

#FlixTrain is not too bad for the price. Wifi even works which is next-level for German standards.

Especially for people like me that like to decide on travel last minute it is great, because #DB is like 4-5 times as expensive then.

We changed that last point from 'verify before opening a PR', because I noticed a lot of people these days are opening PRs with vibe coded bugfixes and feature implementations. They're basically bug reports and feature requests in PR form, and I find they can be a good starting point for a discussion or a proper fix or implementation.

I found a pedestrian traffic light in the Netherlands that is either green or ‘you may cross at your own risk’.

So basically how pedestrian traffic lights work worldwide (except Germany), but they made it official.

@thomasfuchs@hachyderm.io If the quality of software is literally measured by how infrequently it gets updated then Internet Explorer is high quality. Don't think so. Software update frequency has little to do with quality. Software updates often do tend to make software better, at least in open source where entshittification does not play a role. Frequent updates also mean software is actively developed, which is also a good thing.

In #Berlin this weekend for a #dweb meetup. I hope to get some #MapLibre map-making goodness on the schedule of #dwebcamp this Summer.

In any case: no plans for Sunday yet. Suggestions welcome, or if someone wants to hang out, maybe work a bit together in a café, feel free to DM me!

@thomasfuchs@hachyderm.io You can simulate a nuclear reactor or a car crash too even though the real world is way more complex.

That is kind of the point of a simulation.
