this image holds a special place in my heart. I took the original photo from the front door of my apartment in Honduras in 2013 with my cheap, low res digital camera. manipulated later with GIMP & Processing3d.
It's a good synthesis of my love of minimalist landscape photography and digital glitch art. It's a bit of a mess compositionally but whatever.

I've realized the music I make is mostly akin to sound collage. even beat heavy stuff like this.
this track is drum synth, voice, and rain, all mangled in my sampler. sequenced in the piano roll with the grid turned off. just arranging rectangles into patterns. you can get pretty wild push/pull seasick swing rhythms that way.
"fun" fact:
all 4 of these tracks originate from the same max patch.

way back in the day I released a dvd compilation of my video art. this is a short promo. I will put the full thing online in the coming days. lots of video databending and other weirdness.

@d01 it was databent-like, not truly databent.
around 2009 i downloaded some DIY hobbyist audio to midi app from sourceforge. But the algo was terrible. anything more than a monophonic melody turned into a garbled mess. Notes were seemingly random. and various CC channels, and program change info was filled with something like rhythmic noise.
so if i fed it to VSTs or hardware, the synths would go haywire, switching presets, parameters jumping around, etc.
this is one thing I made with those. I cut the midi into smaller loops and created arrangements and added some basic drums.

then I turned it into a visual album with audio reactive visuals using max/jitter feedback loops.

@d01 thanks! I don't think I've tried this process again since making this set of tracks, which was late 2023. I need to attempt another round. The results are always surprising.
I've done similar by creating databent type of midi files and arranging those in rhythmic patterns. Like organizing chaos.
