@nixCraft@mastodon.social having your secretary do email for you is a very privileged way of claiming to not do email.

Replying to
@nixCraft@mastodon.social I was ready to migrate anyway because of all their weird AI bullshit, but this is good motivation to make it my next weekend project.

Replying to
@ZachWeinersmith@mastodon.social I’m not fully convinced this isn’t the result of training data containing advances academics haven’t seen. https://xkcd.com/664/

Replying to
@zachleat@fediverse.zachleat.com I saw something about always springing forward and never falling back? Could be nice to give everyone a chance at being a “morning” person.

Replying to
@Meyerweb I’m guessing their solution is something like Tailwind or CSS-in-JS too.

@zachleat I love that due to backwards compatibility we can’t simply fix the plus sign. Some library out there (probably MooTools) certainly used floating point math errors in a load bearing way that would cause the web to fall apart if changed.

Replying to
@tiffanycli@mastodon.social my wife recently spent an extra couple dollars to buy something directly from a clothing store’s website. Then it turned out Amazon handled all of their fulfillment anyway.

Replying to
@stevegrunwell@phpc.social I love Firefox and used it as my daily driver until last year. Their refusal/inability to support some of the lower-level web APIs like real file system access or hardware stuff like webUSB makes me question this argument. Is my app broken because I want to use the web browser as a cross-OS compatibility layer instead of writing native code? Or is Firefox broken for not supporting features that people can expect on any chromium browser?

RE: https://universeodon.com/@georgetakei/116564204516901642

I’m certain some PR person actually wrote this tweet, but referring to your own father by his last name is kind of absurd to me

Writing modern frontend code without a bundler or any other build tools beyond a file server is kind of great! Except for the part where I totally forgot about how annoying manual cache busting is.

I have decided that using React to do things the silly way is worth it when the project is in the public interest and I am also getting paid to work on it.

@quinn@social.circl.lu this always bothered me because if all you have is a printer, how are you printing anything anyway?
