@Katie Same here, every year! Doing less all around kept the depression nest from accumulating quite so much this year, but I'm still putting in some extra cleaning rounds to enter the new year fresher. I'm not putting the burden of "cleaning the whole house" on myself anymore, though; I know that would set me up for guilt. I set the goal of cleaning "something" every day this week, letting the actual thing be flexible. Are you familiar with #TeamUFYH? It's helped me a LOT.

@quackitude@deacon.social I think I found the source for this particular claim. It's... quite something. https://creation.com/images/pdfs/tj/j19_2/j19_2_96-108.pdf

@quackitude@deacon.social Yeah, this flavor of myth usually evaporates as soon as someone with actual knowledge of the culture is allowed in the room. See also the "How are the children?" story and the zombie legend of the Amish/Navajo/Persian quilters/weavers who always put in a flaw out of humility because "only God is perfect".

@quackitude@deacon.social Folk etymologies and romanticizing other cultures are universal to some degree, but I blame the particular phenomenon of "fake proof" on American evangelical anti-intellectualism. Reject "head religion"- that is, doctrine, hermeneutics, critical thinking- and you need cute little gotcha facts to "prove" your ungrounded faith. And then people think pulling out the correct gotcha is "#apologetics" or, heaven help us, "evangelism", where Jesus is only present as a topic of trivia.

@wilreynolds@mastodon.social "Just"?

@wilreynolds@mastodon.social Oh, thank you for that clarification! 😅
