This magnificent mosaic, with intricate geometric and figural designs crafted from thousands of small stone tesserae, was found during the construction of the Antakya Museum Hotel in Türkiye.

Measuring 9,000 square feet, it is the largest intact mosaic ever excavated.
The mosaic once graced the floor of a large public building in ancient Antioch.
Two earthquakes (526 AD and 528 AD) rippled the mosaic causing the fluctuations in the floor.

Found in the Ljubljana Marshes in Slovenia, this incredible artifact dates back over 5,100 years. The wheel itself is made of ash wood, paired with a 124-centimeter oak axle. The artifact’s exceptional condition is attributed to the oxygen-poor, waterlogged environment of the Ljubljana Marshes peat bog, which prevented the wood from decaying over the millennia. Photo credit Matevž Paternoster / MGML. https://mgml.si/en/city-museum/exhibitions/211/the-wheel-5200-years/

THE WHEEL – 5,200 Years

The invention of the wheel is one of the foundations of modern civilisation and culture. Thousands of years of inventiveness have not created anything to replace the wheel. The wheel encouraged progress and creativity. And the oldest wooden wheel, with an axle, 5,200 years old, was discovered in Slovenia in ...

A genetic study of the remains of 2,000-year-old dogs recovered from archaeological sites on the Korean Peninsula suggests that the canines belonged to a lineage separate from other dog populations in East Asia.

Ancient East Asian dog lineage is revealed by genome of ancient Korean dogs

Dogs form a monophyletic clade comprising three major sublineages: Eastern Eurasian, Western Eurasian, and sled dog lineages. While ancient genomic studies have clarified relationships within the latter two, the internal structure of the Eastern Eurasian lineage remains unclear. The dingo and New Guinea Singing Dog (NGSD) are regarded as its least admixed members, but it is uncertain whether they were the sole representatives in East Eurasia. Here, we sequenced ancient genomes from three dogs ex
