Hello friends!
Life is full of changes...and over the last three decades my participation in the fandom has become...more condensed. As I followed my life's path, the opportunities to be active in the Fandom has become more scarce. I've gone from hosting monthly meets to making two or three meets a year. I've gone from attending 3-4 furcons to making it to one or two small Furry Events. I've gone from hosting a major local Furry Event to...well, I'm still doing that with Furst Night Pittsburgh on New Year's Eve.
I guess the context was to illuminate that due to all the things I'm involved with and the scarcity of personal free time, I need to make the most out of the opportunities that do come my way.
The Western PA Furry Weekend this year was just that. I was there for around 8-hours on Saturday...three of those were set up and tear down for the Amateur Radio Station Harvest and I were running to see if it was a viable location and activity. We believe it was, and we learned some things leading up to Saturday and during our time on the air that we'll use to make improvements for next year. Thanks to the event and to Programming for access to electricity.
I had a great time at WPAFW! I fit a little bit of everything I love about WPAFW and Furry into 5-hours. I got to see friends and socialized. I had grilled burgers and hot dogs, baked beans and chips...typical WPAFW cook out fare, I enjoyed a cup of McKenzie's Wild Cherry cider and the Belgian Ale that were on tap in the "Biergarten," and I was able to contribute to the event I founded with a little bit of Programming and work the HAM radio with my buddy Harvest. Best of all, I had about a half hour out and about in Ashes, and even got in the fursuit photo for the first time in probably a decade.
I need to figure out how to re-connect with the Furry Amateur Radio operators...if there's a mailing list or chat group or something?
Huge thanks to the entire Staff of WPAFW this year for putting on an amazing event. I am so PROUD of what you've all done and how far the event has progressed from it's humble beginnings in my garage.
Looking forward to seeing many of you at Furst Night in a couple of months...and again at WPAFW next year!
Swift
