@maaikees@sw-development-is.social great article, true on every count.
I have a related question to history, which I have not studied (I went for software engineering, which is not engineering..).
What I was taught about history (in Netherlands) are specific highlights, like black plague, roman empire, kindgoms in Europe, etc. However, there are huge gaps between many of the events I've learned about. So I have a thought, that I want to read more about, but don't know the search term (and Google broke search). So I'm not asking you: hey please explain how I'm wrong, but merely, how's this thing called??
My thought (maybe the same):
Could it be that our society only retells the stories that either explain why we are how we are now (like no more rule of kingdom) or what has always happened (look: war, genocide, people exploiting other people). And therefore most people have a very biased view of history. So anything that happens now shouldn't be explained away by our limited coverage of history.
Like yes we have had wars, but we also had long stretches without war, but those are boring, so those years are skipped. But it's not as if we're only going to war all the time.
Similar with the position of women in our society, there have been societies where there was a more equal balance. But most of repeated history is about the times where men were in power. Solidifying the idea that it's the way things have always been.
Or with our relationship to nature.
Sorry for long rant, but thought maybe you have some good search terms/book tips where I can read more to better understand how I'm most likely wrong.
