I've seen co-workers who used to be decent coders give in to the pressure from above and produce low quality slop as this is what the company mandates. I commonly end up being the one who has to review that shit and it takes me multiple days to write down my remarks on code which took minutes to prompt into existence, only for my feedback to be fed back into the LLM which then generates new commits containing a whole new set of issues. I've been doing that for a while now and my burnout symptoms are getting worse every day. Next week, I will have to report on how I'm using AI and I'll have to tell them that I'm not using AI at all as I'm too busy reviewing the endless stream of low quality garbage produced by my co-workers.

Dafür soll der Staat meine Interessen vertreten und dafür sorgen, dass es mir in diesem Staat halbwegs gut geht. Wenn das nicht funktioniert, weil die Ressourcen die man von uns allen über all die Jahre einkassiert hat an den falschen Stellen verpulvert werden, finde ich es äußerst dreist zu erwarten, dass die Bevölkerung noch mehr geben soll. Aber wir in Deutschland sind ja nicht einmal bereit das Kind beim Namen zu nennen. Wenn es außerhalb von Deutschland passiert, heißt es Korruption. Wenn es innerhalb von Deutschland passiert, nennt man es "Lobbyismus". Das klingt so schön harmlos. Und das lässt sich auch viel besser als "normal" verkaufen, statt sich mit dem unangenehmen Gedanken befassen zu müssen, dass ein Großteil der Bevölkerung bei der Wahl immer wieder für noch mehr Korruption stimmt.

Yet again, I am tasked with reviewing #AISlop written with #ClaudeCode.

Yet again, I notice a very obvious and not very surprising tendency of the AI trying to "impress" by explaining inside a doc block how "genius" the code it just generated is.

It brags about memory consumption and generates all these lines of mostly useless commentary which is basically just a transliteration of the code I'm seeing in front of me into slightly more readable English.

I - the human - can read code. I can make sense of it, arguably even better than the AI, at least in the configuration it is currently used in at my workplace.

What's completely missing is a comprehensive summary of what each block of code does in simple terms, and background information which can not be directly derived from looking at the code itself.

All of this makes reviewing AI code a very time intensive endeavor.

The sad thing is that management doesn't understand this, because the management of IT companies doesn't understand IT these days.

@Cal Even if it is not generative AI, my brain automatically associates TTS voice overs with propaganda and misinformation. There is a selection of common text to speech voices which have been used in so many low quality click bait videos that I have a somewhat autonomous reaction to hit the "back" key on my remote the moment I recognize them.

Here is something I vibe-coded within 5 minutes which doesn't actually solve the problem and introduces 10 new ones so well hidden within the slop that it will take literal weeks to debug and undo all the damage.

See? It's not as difficult as you "developers" always want us believe. My dog could do this. That's how easy it is.

I don't understand why we are even paying you any money.

Now go and use more #AI, you entitled, overpaid, "software developer" scumbag, or I'll have your job position re-evaluated at the next management board meeting.

Wenn außerirdisches Leben ebenso mit korrupten Medien, korrupten Politikern und nimmersatten Kapitalisten zu kämpfen hatte wie wir wird klar, warum die noch nicht bei uns waren. Die sind einfach alle ausgestorben bevor sie es aus ihrem Sonnensystem heraus geschafft haben. Und uns wird es genau so gehen.

@javahippie@mainz.social Aber da wir hier in Deutschland sind wird unsere korrupte Bundesregierung alles daran setzen, dass eine der unfähigsten, zurecht von Insolvenz bedrohten IT-Buden mit der Umsetzung eines solchen Systems beauftragt wird. Irgendjemand wird schon irgendwen in der Wirtschaft kennen, dessen Unternehmen ganz dringend eine staatliche Finanzspritze braucht.

@TechConnectify@mas.to I've adjusted door closers both in the office and at home long before you made that video. I probably broke some "safety regulations " and "insurance policies" by doing that myself instead of waiting for my employer or my landlord respectively to eventually call an over-priced "professional" to adjust a few screws. But I was sick of me and everyone else getting startled every time someone came through these dang doors so I just did it. Only problem over here in Germany is that we usually don't have AC in private homes and the temperature differences between summer and winter seem to require adjustment of the door closer. At least the ancient one we have at my place seems to have that problem where it sometimes doesn't have enough momentum for the lock to latch properly.

@pallenberg@mastodon.social Irgendwie habe ich wenig Mitleid mit einer Wirtschaft, welche in letzter Zeit alles daran gesetzt hat das Leben der Konsumenten so weit wie nur irgend möglich zu erschweren. Wenn man nur wenigstens davon ausgehen könnte, dass all die kurzsichtigen Geldgeier in der Wirtschaft die richtigen Konsequenzen aus solchen Krisen ziehen. Aber sie werden das wie immer auf dem Rücken der Bevölkerung aussitzen und wenig bis gar nichts ändern um vielleicht irgendwann zu einer nachhaltigeren Lösung als ungebremsten Maximal-Kapitalismus zu finden. Vielleicht muss das System einfach mal so hart vor die Wand fahren, dass man gar keine andere Möglichkeit hat als es neu aufzubauen. Und wenn dafür ein paar Big Player untergehen müssen, dann muss das halt so sein. Scheiß auf die Arbeitsplätze. Die interessieren abgesehen von den Arbeitnehmern ja sowieso niemanden.
