This is my latest obsession. Found these little “paint your own” teapot planters. These will be getting their outdoor varnish this weekend then will be out in the garden. PS yes, I noticed I spelled Orczy wrong but it’s been corrected on the actual pot, like, ten seconds after I took the photo and noticed it. #crafts #painting

#ScribesAndMakers Self-promotion day
I have a couple of books, but if you want a laugh, the sci-fi ones are apparently funny. I will also give you an insider tip, exclusive to people on Mastodon and this hashtag, but book one of The Xanadu series, The Xanadu Affair, is actually still free on my own site, https://www.littleblueplanettours.co.uk in the shop and on PayHip because I haven't got round to resetting them after a promo.

@sybren@fosstodon.org This is amazing. Bookmarked the site. I actually wish this had been around back when I was doing tour guiding as having one of the city centre / main points of interest would've been so useful.
#WritersCoffeeClub What's your favourite way to introduce a character's appearance?
Don't really have one. It depends on the book, the style etc. Probably most details come from other people than the POV character themselves, unless the character has cause to actually think about something concerning their appearance. But it really does depend on the story.
Not going to lie, I am not 100% sure how I actually did this, but The Xanadu Affair is now available on DriveThruFiction! https://www.drivethrufiction.com/en/product/559007/the-xanadu-affair
So now you have another place to acquire a bit of sci-fi comedy rather than the one named after a rainforest. I might be biased but it is the best book called The Xanadu Affair I ever read.
Boosts are greatly appreciated.
I have been really sick for a couple of days, couldn’t even get out of bed yesterday and felt the same this morning, but forced myself out because the new plants needed settling and spent some lovely hours in the garden chatting with my oldest friend, and finally I feel like I might survive. And my goth tulips I planted last year are back! #gardening #flowers
#ScribesAndMakers Does any of your work involve professors and / or universities?
The third instalment of the Xanadu series does. There's a Norwegian professor of Xenoanthropology and a doctor in a similar discipline. Gala is a PhD student, and finally reveals what her subject / thesis topic is in the third book as it's relevant to the plot.
Quincy refers to her university days at UND (Universitato de Novo Deveno) quite a lot.

@wendypalmer@mastodon.au We had one last weekend and same thing, template AI slop poster I've seen used for a dozen different things online. For a fair of human-made crafts.
People of Mastodon - I am planning on setting up a service to advise on accessibility and help with solutions for websites. I've worked in accessibility myself for 20 years, but I'm interested in actual users' experiences. What sort of problems have you come across that really get on your nerves and you'd love to see sorted? What barriers have you found to using websites in the past? What would you really like to see added as standard to sites?
Little carder bee enjoying the new flowers on the quince bush. Been quite a few honey bees so far this spring too which is always good to see

@susankayequinn@wandering.shop Those things are so ugly on every level.
#PennedPossibilities Have you ever had your work plagiarised or stolen?
Not that I can prove, but years ago I used to write scripts and sent a few specs in to a certain broadcaster for various schemes they had running. I never got anywhere, but I did hear a whole scene from one of my scripts, literally verbatim, turn up in one of their sitcoms a few months later.

The first forget-me-not is now peeking out from behind its leaves. Planted these as seeds three years ago and I’m very glad to see them back. #gardening #flowers

@pheonix@hachyderm.io It's the whole idea of "if you can't monetise it, it's rubbish and a waste of time", which basically just needs to get in the bin. But I know I'm still really bad for thinking "oh, can't put that anywhere, it's not 100% perfect". Which is sort of a leave over from my mum not accepting anything as good, but also related to this idea.
I am basically mediocre at most things. So what I will try to do is reclaim the fun even when I am a bit crap at something.

@Natasha_Jay@tech.lgbt I feel like there should be a green dot over London. They like their crime dramas hard boiled.
