#genAI cranks out an endless stream of ugly, soulless, near-identical fliers, signs, and ads; used everywhere by the uncaring masses who have no design talent and no concern for aesthetics. we had the same thing in the 80s. it was called The Print Shop. #retrocomputing #applewriter #dotmatrix #tractorfeed #broderbund #c64 #appleIIe

randomly, today i was reminded of the time (aug 28, 2012 according to jpeg metadata) my #bike was trapped in a "hot set" of a sketch being filmed for #portlandia (S3E9). the gag was about how everything in the city was an art project and a building we had our office in was used for this fake rain scene. they wouldnt let me move my bike until shooting was done. so i was stuck at work for a few extra hours, but we watched the shoot from our window. #pdx #portland #biketooter #filmmaking

@timotheegoguely@mastodon.design i have a very hacky script i run on a server that pulls down the content and generates json/jpeg. super flaky, but it works about 80% of the time. 😂

@detritus@todon.eu rumor has it that #linuxmint will avoid the ubuntu ai stuff. as far as i can tell, this has not been confirmed really. but maybe by using the tag here, i will conjure this to be true! 🪄 disclosure: i have been a mint user for like a decade? too long for me to know if it is "usable" versus i just got used to it? 😂

@kottke@mastodon.social kinda easy to find the one i live in. 😂

@kajou i was wondering about this. i feel like the whole internet should have more "anything-to-zine" functionality being implemented and experimented with. 🎉 #zines

@gbif as someone with red-green colorblindness, i can really appreciate this. 🤩

@todbot@mastodon.social i love this. 😍 was just talking to my kids about #SSTV and an artist friend who was (is?) really into it.

@nate@social.lol omg whaaat. this is the best.

@nate@social.lol more of this please! (the carless spaces and sitting in cafes. but while we are at it, your art too of course.) ❤️

@nate@social.lol way to png in the new year! really tho - thanks for sharing the art/message.

@kajou@mastodon.design very cool project. will be interested to see what the completed set looks like. 😍

@sovtechfund this sounds like great boost for some very important ongoing work. thanks for supporting this! is it possible that this might expand to include other standards which are critical to specialty areas of open source tech like @tdwg / @gbif for example?

i dont know. i like the idea, and i love anything that helps oss. but... if i had, say, 1 hour a day that i could get away with *not* doing my prescribed work... why would i do *different* work? as opposed to nothing? or something relaxing? maybe this makes more sense in some sort of office environment where you have to *appear* to be working, but could get away with it being on oss instead.

@nate@social.lol bike theft is even more sad in retro-poster form. 😭

@nim@xoxo.zone what are colors? 😢
