“Little” Painted Desert
Traveling west on I40 in AZ yesterday, even though we’d seen it before, we decided to stop by the famous Painted Desert since it is only a very short detour off the highway. It was closed. Not sure if it’s because of the shut down or something else. So I checked the map and noticed a place called Little Painted Desert. It’s about 20 miles north of Winslow on Rt 87. It’s not a national park or monument, not even a state park. It is a county park. But wow. Hardly anyone there, no crowds. It just reaffirms that you need not go to the famous ‘honey pot” locations for good photography.
