Curled Pill Bug. The best part of spring is playing with the returning bugs! This pill bug might have me note that he is in fact not a true bug at all, nor is he even an insect. He is a land crustacean, and breathes damp air through adapted gills. #macro #macro-creais #macrophotography #macroinvertebrates #invertebrates #nature #naturephotography #urbangarden #urbannature #wildlife #wildlifephotography #Wirbellosen #natgeonature #natgeo #small

very beautiful

Depigmented Canada Goose
Depigmented, amelanastic, hypopigmented, dilute, not to be confused with leucistic, albino, or piebald: I am just going to say for sure that this is one pale bird.

Western Honeybee: I get a small thrill every time I see a honeybee at work. We have always known they are special animals with intelligence and skills beyond our understanding. Now that we are beginning to unravel the mysteries of their cognition, they fill me with even more amazement. Using their butt waggles to indicate the distance and direction of good food is shocking enough. Now we know they can give their hivemates more qualitative reports, wagging with some hesitation if they witnessed a dead bee at the food source. They are taking in and analyzing all their sensory information ann turning it into a mathematical report! I think all those who tried to claim that bees function without deep sentience and conscious communication have thoroughly lost the argument! #bees #honeybees #westernhoneybee #insect #insectsofthefediverse #macro #macrophotography #invertebrates #wildlife #wildlifephotography #nature #naturephotography #arthropod #pollinators #garden #flowers #entomology #insekt #macrobug #medow

Willow Flycatcher feeding Her Young A fellow bird enthusiast who was passing me on the trail commented that while it was lovely to hear the babes calling out in the trees, it would be awesome if one became visible, just for a moment. As if answering his call, out swooped the parent from one direction and the little guy from another, to feed on the bare branch in front of us for a mere moment before taking off again. I would love to borrow this guy's secret birding genie for a day. #flycatcher #willowflycatcher #birds #vogel #oiseaux #nature #naturephotography #wildlife #wildlifephotography #bcbirds #natgeo #natgeonature #birdsofpixelfed #babybirds

Barn Swallow Fledgelings Even with a long lens, I aim to give new bird parents a wide berth- but I swear, this year, bird families are insisting on setting up next to me to demand their photos be taken. These swallow parents corralled their little guys my way, and I chose to believe they chose me as their noble protectorate. (Yes, I know it was really that I was near the sunny warm spot with lots of bugs to eat). This is my second photo from the swallow visit, which actually shows remarkable restraint on my part, as I probably snapped a thousand. 😊 #swallow #fledgeling #barnswallow #birds #birdphotography #nature #naturephotography #wildlife #wildlifephotography #natgeo #natgeonature #vogel #oiseaux #bcbirds

So cool! Like they’re walking on a mirror for a photoshoot for their new album cover!

What an amazing shot!

That colour coordination is perfection!
