And what about all the operating systems that already exist and are no longer maintained? Who is responsible for that. Microslop gotta update Win95 to add age verification?

Set the maximum to a factor of the lowest. Want to pay yourself more? Great! Go ahead! You just have to make sure you pay all your employees enough too.

Recently read that the UK is on track to decarbonise 90% of the grid by the end of the current parliament. An oil crisis pushes people away from oil, who would have thought it?

Sounds like a better measurement than GDP, although it can be harder to measure.

They always say reuse is better than recycle, this is a great way to reuse some used engine oil.

TIL my idea of casual is actually ultra casual. That is pretty much what I wear at work in summer. In winter I would switch to trousers and add a jumper.

Handed my notice in at work, now every day is a recharge day as I wind down the effort I put in and bask in the glory of everything turning to shit. Gotta teach someone everything I know on Wednesday, in a 45 min session. I suppose I can point to a few of the most important things and say you will want to work out how that code works at some point.
Even our consultant has said it takes easily over a year to learn to a somewhat competent level and that is just the front end.

Anker solix battery and some solar panels to charge it, you could do most of your house off that. Not sure which brand is best to go with but that at least let's you look up some example products. That gives you a plug and play type of setup for the solar/battery system but it will may cost more than building your own.
How would you reduce energy consumption without using less energy? Not sure if this counts as obviously it is using less energy... Either way, turn the heating down for the house, even more in rooms you don't use often. Then get a heated blanket or hot water bottle to warm your self up.
Firewood might be a cheap energy source to look at. Heat a bunch of water (or any large mass) with a short clean high temp fire and then let the water keep an area warm for a long time. Like a giant water bottle really, you could pump it through a radiator depending on the scale you want. You can heat yourself or an entire house like this if you want to but that depends on your DIY skills or what quality of workmanship you see as acceptable.
You can get easy to use plastic pipes and quick attach fittings that are very easy to use your self at home. Check their temp limit, 60c seems like a common maximum so I would heat up a water barrel that can take that or more and use a thermometer to check it's not going over the limit for the pipes. If you go copper them you can go until it starts to boil.

Every SIM I have seen is free or close to it, unless you are buying it as part of a bundle where the SIM is usually free and its the stuff bundled with it, like data, that costs money.

Agree to that, bought games like Factorio and Vintage Story straight from the developer instead of through steam. It does help when the game natively supports Linux, if it doesn’t then yeah Steam it is.

What is the point of your comment? Amazon is global and a good way to see an approximate price of something like this, I don't know where OP lives so I can hardly recommend a specific local shop but I can encourage them to look for one instead.

Can take a fair bit longer on low end devices. Don't have an issue with it beyond that

Never gets hot enough to need more than a fan here really, but similar ideas should still apply. Cool the person instead of the house. So I've bottle or a small heat pump (old fridge, aquarium chiller) to cool water and pipe it around you in some way.
Downside is condensation, but not sure how bad that is if you have low humidity as we are always high humidity.

One off late nights are fine though. As long as you normally get a good night sleep then it's not much of a problem

I can see sets of 100 marbles for £6 on Amazon. Though I would recommend buying elsewhere if possible, just wanted to do a quick search.

Omg... You would have to verify every single VM. Would docker images count or not? Might be enough to push me to properly work out how to use that instead of VMs...

Certainly a good idea and in summer I make use of the hours before work quite often. But wtf do you do in winter when it's dark until shortly before you start work and is dark by the time you finish?
Summer mornings before work I often go for a swim and then cook breakfast on the beach before cycling home to start work.

While not exactly a war, it may be compared to Anschluss
Edit: If they go for a land invasion, I would replace my suggestion with Stalingrad.

When there is a water outage here it is normally localised to a small area and makes national news because of how infrequent it is. The water company must provide bottled water when this happens too.

It wasn't my house/stove. The moment I had my own house I went for induction as I love the easy to wipe glass top. Not pouring pollution into my kitchen is a bonus.

Pipe the coolant around yourself so it is more directly cooling you rather than the house. Exactly how is up to you. Could sit on cold a hose pipe, or send it through a heat exchanger with a fan pointed at you. Like a computer water cooling fan/radiator.

Oh yeah I wasn't really thinking of downloading porn over it, but internet at least gives a global network to connect into. Text communication is still a form of data and if it can be used normally day to day then you have more infrastructure that people are used to using and is still usable in a disaster as well, even if you lose access to all WAN nodes you should have local communication.

I know the network as a whole goes a long way, but how far can a single message actually be sent? Don't both have a maximum number of hops and a hop is only a few km?
It certainly seems interesting, but I am not sure if it could be useful for me. Especially when no one I know is going to buy hardware for it. Is there a reason these don't extend off the internet? Always thought some kind of internet/LoRa hybrid could lower the barrier to entry as most have internet connected devices already, and exposing them to the network some will realise they could pay less by switching to LoRa instead.

“Employees without children deserve the exact same treatment and flexibility as those with children” sounds to me very much like its saying the flexibility should be for everyone.

Wouldn’t this be the workers asking for an equal number of cookies regardless of if they have children? Sounds to me like saying everyone should get more flexibility.

People sometimes have to go without time off anyway, regardless of kids. If I book time off work to go away and its already approved, someone with kids doesn’t get to take that time instead of me.
Plus my partner is a teacher so we are even more restricted to school term times than the kids are. At least some kids just go on holiday during term time anyway.

Thare are too many different forms of employment to list every possible situation, but a simple example is flexitime being available to everyone and not just parents.
Also if you don’t currently have benefits like that would you expect to get them when you have kids? Not having them might impact planning choices.
