@nixCraft@mastodon.social There's an old proverb that goes: "The best time to switch to Firefox is twenty years ago. The second best time is now."

@ketan If you think about it, "making fraud consequence-free" is really the only viable commercial use for LLMs.

@danderson@hachyderm.io It's interesting to see what sort of things humans put their effort into when survival/comfort isn't dependent on it. Sometimes I think about how if money was removed from everyone's equation, being a waiter at a greasy spoon diner would be a really fun job!

As the quality of search goes down, people are forced to rephrase and search again to find what they want.

Oh wait sorry, it's apparently because *checks notes* people love AI.

Google Search queries hit an ‘all time high’ last quarter

Search had a “strong quarter” due in part to AI, according to CEO Sundar Pichai.

A really nice-to-see piece by @ardent_handsaw@wandering.shop that echoes my experience finally switching to Linux. It's time to get the word out that, well, it's kinda boring (in a good way) now. And that fact makes it really really exciting.

@GottaLaff @TechConnectify @jztusk @mastodonmigration @Teri_Kanefield @Popehat @mmasnick @mattblaze Furthermore, trolls are on the lower end of the "reasons to avoid Twitter" list while the owner is posting antisemitic conspiracies. Meta quite literally enabled genocide in Myanmar. The Fediverse may require a greater degree of personal responsibility but supporting those companies by encouraging one's following to go there is, IMO, morally contemptible.

Honestly surprised Google would do something that makes an app less cluttered with crap!

I'm sure they'll still run plenty of AI scam ads of "Elon musk" pushing some crypto. But this is a start!

Replying to
@cragsand@mastodon.social @nileane@nileane.fr Also there is essentially zero incentive for anyone to start an instance, since it's functionally just providing free hosting for BlueSky (the company). My gut says they just wanted to start a traditional social media platform, but wagered that obfuscating the structure behind a "decentralized" protocol would give a veil of legitimacy. It feels similar to how crypto is "decentralized" but also not really (It bears repeating that Graber and Dorsey are crypto fans).

BlueSky is cosplaying decentralization

Almost exactly six months after Twitter got taken over by a petulant edge lord, people seem to be done with grieving the communities this disrupted and connections they lost, and are ready, eager even

Those who know me know I have long made the argument that hosting AI slop is a bad business model because viewers will not find it very interesting and leave. This video makes a great argument that even if there *is* a large audience for slop, that audience will STILL leave which is something I hadn't considered.
