@thatonecalculator@stop.voring.me @petersterne@mastodon.social For many it is. Having experienced teaching High School students in multiple levels & grades, I see the public is very diverse in learning styles/modes.
A large portion of the population are very concrete hands-on learners. They construct their reality in a one to one problem-solving. They are prone to a simple direct solution & they struggle with shades of grey & variation.
It is not complacency, "learning this concept is difficult for them".

@jetton@mastodon.online Follow up with an appropriate Tweet-exorcism. Being nice, helpful, supportive, and inclusive are very effective measures in casting out negativity & memories of demonic Muskites.

@llebrun@mastodon.social @Mastodon@mastodon.social Thank goodness that was resolved, and an explanation was given for the error. Hopefully this news is spread beyond Mastodon, so that there is a better understanding of the platform. Thanks for updating. 🙂

@thatonecalculator@stop.voring.me @petersterne@mastodon.social Doesn't matter, people use no-name facial tissues, and call them Kleenex. The general public want a condensed easy term of reference. They have enough problems getting their heads around the idea that Mastodon is not one online site/thing.
The small percentage will get the idea of Fediverse, if other parts become useful alternatives. If a Fedi version of TikTok becomes noteworthy, then the concept may broaden. perhaps we will be lucky.

@Gigawatt121@mastodon.art I searched CoCs - got combined oral contraceptive pill. Context is everything. 😂
Anyway, I liked the post originally, & boosted it. I'm not changing anything. 👍 Let folks check out the full conversation, & let them decide.

In the US, the Kleenex name has become—in common usage but not in law—genericized: the popularity of the product has led to the use of its name to refer to any facial tissue, regardless of the brand. Many dictionaries, including Merriam-Webster and Oxford, now include definitions in their publications defining it as such.

@u0421793@stereophonic.space @petersterne@mastodon.social @thatonecalculator@stop.voring.me Depending on country or region, different trademark names become so dominant, they can be generalized in common usage.
Another variation is the flu or stomach flu. People forget that flu is short for influenza. You get sick, it is a cold or The Flu. I think that is why some don't think flu shots are necessary, because everybody gets "The Flu".

@u0421793@stereophonic.space @petersterne@mastodon.social @thatonecalculator@stop.voring.me Hasn't been my experience. There is even a term for it, genericized or genericide. A generic trademark, also known as a genericized trademark or proprietary eponym, is a trademark or brand name that, because of its popularity or significance, has become the generic term for/synonymous with, a general class of products or services, usually against the intentions of the trademark's owner.

@thatonecalculator@stop.voring.me @petersterne@mastodon.social For many it is just email, like Kleenex. I'm not saying it overly complex, it is not. Many just gravitate to the simplest concept-label. That's why we end up with people seeing lots of immigrants coming in, the answer is a beautiful wall. Genders, there are 2. Taxes too high lower them.
Eventually enough folks will get the notion of the fediverse, but many will not be able to explain it, really understand it. Life will go on. 🙂
