@aphyr@woof.group @thickurt@woof.group - I have my account set that I have to approve a follower. In the rare event I do get a request, I check out their profile and activity first before approving. I know it's not fool proof, but there have been a couple of requests I denied. I've seen a couple of sites where to get approved for membership, you have to (1) submit a face pic, (2) receive an e-mailed confirmation code, and then (3) submit a second face pic while holding a handwritten sign with that code.

Kids are nosy as fuck; they'll find anything a parent tries to hide. That's how the "Playboy" magazines were shared out behind the gym during recess. {5th grade} Kids will figure out how to manipulate that little cable box, then stay up to watch those naughty movies on cable TV at 1 AM {6th grade} I can keep going...

@Wen - During our weekly department meetings (via Teams, since we're scattered all over the U.S.) whenever the boss says "circle back", a co-worker and I type "DRINK!" to each other in a separate, private chat. It's become our private drinking game.

The first pregnancy of someone in my grade at school wasn't a "teen" pregnancy, it was a "tween" pregnancy in the 4th grade. (I grew up in not-the-best-of-places... the first kid to show up drunk to school was in the 5th grade, mind you.) The basic rule of human nature is that if you restrict something, people will want it even more. AND, there will be some parents who will (for whatever reasons) circumvent things and enable their kids.

@Drub - Drub's garden: Look at all the yummy squash! My garden: There is no squash (or anything else) because if there were, it would be smothered by mutant space bugs totally immune to any and all poisons and radiation. They're like they hydra: you kill one and seven more appear.

I don't think either postal service explicitly mentions it on their websites, although something triggered me to try putting in the Australia Post tracking number into the US Postal Service website, which amazingly worked!

@seismic007@woof.group - If you have something coming from Australia Post, the tracking disappears once the parcel lands in the United States. ... But you can go to the US Postal Service website, put in the Australia Post tracking number, and tracking within the US will appear there. I discovered that by accident.

@Richboy50 - I've found in my career the blame for bureaucracy is on politicians+judiciary. From the founding fathers to today's friends-of-billionaires, government employees work under a system where they must continually CYA while attempting to keep things going with an incoherent mishmash body of law that ties their hands. The thing is, the role of business is to be efficient; the role of government is to be fair. Despite people trying many times to unite the two, you can only pick one.

@socalgecko - Memories of that time I rented a bicycle for the afternoon in Ireland, didn't even remotely cross my mind to think about water, ended up nowhere near anything, and so there I was licking the rain off my waterproof jacket... To be fair to myself, it was the day before I turned 19, so like... you know, what did I know?

@argals - "We WANT our taxes to go to the 'undeserving.'" Except my taxes go to (1) the federal government, (2) the state government, (3) the county, (4) the school district, (5) the city. Maybe you can do this in a small, very rich, homogenous, unitary state like Norway, but it's not so easy in a very large, debt-ridden, ethnically diverse, multi-layered federal system like the U.S. where the "undeserving" is always some other level-of-government's problem.
