Coder, photographer, grump. Average Home theater nut.

Been at programming professionally since 2007, currently trying to get to keep doing it rather than getting stuck in meetings.

@StefanThinks@beige.party Take an example: The Rock is really good at pretending to be an actor. He doesn't really act though, he's just in a lot of movies being The Rock. He might be mistaken for an actor, but not often. Gary Oldman is a really good actor. Often you don't realize it's Gary Oldman because he just blends in to the surroundings. He might be recognized as Gary Oldman, but not often.

I find it interesting, that when I build a #homeassistant dashboard, then I'm basically working with a state machine. Show the state of these entities. Conditionally on these states, show these cards.

While when I'm doing automations for my lights and other non-dashboard entities, then I'm not able to work in the same way - in that case I have to wait for a trigger, and then I fire off some actions and hope they take.

Is it currently possible to set a desired state during automations? Like, if the alarm is on, this light should be blue. If the Wiim is playing, then the amplifier should be on. If it's between 6:30 and 7:30 then the bedroom lights should be on. Switches would then just set variables that define the desired state of a light.

In the latest series of #spiderman movies we have:
- Homecoming
- Far from home
- No way home

The now one is called... Brand new day.

What drove the executives to not name it Home Alone? He has no friends, his aunt is dead, it fits with the naming scheme, it's perfect!

The first part of the summary is even: "A forgotten Peter Parker lives alone [..]"

So I got a new phone, and while I'm patiently waiting for the military grade cover to arrive (seriously, it's being shipped from the UK, but every day it's like "we moved your package from that desk to this desk"), so my new phone won't suffer from child proximity or the consequences of being as slippery as a stick of butter in the sun, I'm only using it sparingly. However, in this short transition period, it's real annoying that #signalapp cannot run on two phones at once!

I know, molly is a thing, and I should probably try it out, but I'd just really like it if signal could do this one thing for me.

@patriksvensson Cool. Wrong, but cool. AI is everywhere. It has been for decades in one form or another. Spam filters is a notable mention I set up on my own server around 2004. Translations, text to speech... I get the point though, it's just that AI is such an all encompassing term that has been co-opted for large language models, but it's so much more than that.

  1. Min telefon. Den skal jeg have.

@jmaris @rawenwolf @EUCommission It looks like an app is involved that will hold an attestation that you are of age. This only holds the attestation, no other id. Effectively this should enable the user to request an attestation without disclosing what it's for, and hand it over without disclosing any personal information, making it perfectly private.

So I guess I'm upgrading from my Pixel 7 pro to a Samsung galaxy S26 Ultra (Through no expense apart from a cover). It's striking just how similar the form factor of the two phones are. The size is pretty much identical, the main difference being how the camera bump on the Samsung is moronically parked to the side making the phone wobble when lying on a table. The camera is hopefully better though.

Still, not much has happened in the last 4 years.

@aha @patriksvensson In that case you shouldn't call anything AI? AI is a bit of a marketing term, so it's fuzzy by definition. What I have seen, people I work with, people in the industry use AI for things where you train a computer on data to do something with the resulting model (broadly speaking). What definition of AI would you use?

@aha @patriksvensson Even if you look at what happens today, if you take a picture with your somewhat recent phone, AI is probably used to clean it up. AlphaFold, an AI used to pretty much solve protein folding. AI is used to sort trash by plastic, food and so on. That's by today's standards. What we call AI (which really is just a marketing term) is simply everywhere, a lot of it actually doing good. I would be hard pressed to say I don't used it, even if I do deplore the prevalence of generative AI and people who keep quoting ChatGPT or whatever at me.

So somehow, entirely outside of my control, I became the owner of a Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra. Ok, maybe I had a moment of boredom and exerted the tiniest bit of control towards something futile, but honestly I should not be trusted to do things!

Anyway, while I wasn't surprised to learn that it had an AI assistant installed, I did find the FOUR assistants I had to either uninstall or disable depending on how deeply it was baked into the system, a bit excessive.

Bixby - Samsung AI, disabled
Gemini - Google AI, disabled
Copilot - Microsoft AI, uninstalled
Perplexity - uh, its own thing? Uninstalled

I'm now wondering if I have another rogue AI on the phone that I didn't notice...
