apropos of nothing, fuck Zuck for renaming his stupid company “Meta” and condemning the entire tech industry to confuse “meta tags” (HTML) with “Meta tags” (trackers and bullshit) for the rest of our careers

@NailClippings@mastodon.social @atpfm@mastodon.social I live in an apartment with a pretty sick, modern HVAC. Solar is obviously out of the question, but my power company has a plan where you can get midnight+ power at 15% of normal price, at the cost of double rate during waking hours.
Been daydreaming about getting a battery for the HVAC and fridge, charging overnight, and bleeding the battery during the day. It's silly but we are of the type who does the silly things.

@ianRobinson@mastodon.social @atpfm@mastodon.social I was reading about how audio professionals are going to be in a bind, because Thunderbolt apparently has some detectable latency that PCIE sails through.
This will never happen, but I’d love to see a Mac Studio with a PCIE receptacle on the bottom that could connect into a card enclosure with a widdle interface poking out of the top.
@thomasfuchs@hachyderm.io i wish we could educate the public that LLMs would be more accurately described as “simulated intelligence,” but i can’t figure out how to explain the difference to normies at all.

@atpfm@mastodon.social @caseyliss@mastodon.social Your panel thingy sorts nicely into the i-didn’t-make-this-up category of “ambient devices”:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ambient_device
The first I heard of was the Ambient Orb, saw it on Boing Boing back when Boing Boing was a thing to read. It’s a wifi-connected sphere that can take any feed and then glow a different color based on your criteria.

@halcyon If you’re working on a downloadable app, could you add me to your release announcement list? If not, do you have a public repo?

@atpfm@mastodon.social … here’s an idea: an anthropomorphic trashcan Mac Pro standing triumphantly with a sword over a pile of cheesegrater and trypophobic* Mac Pros
- this is my name for the hex ball grid thing that was used with a mere two products, possibly the shortest aesthetic statement in Apple history?

@atpfm@mastodon.social @caseyliss@mastodon.social also this rabbity thing had a cult following, I think they got “rooted” once the service disappeared, and now there’s an open source firmware that keeps them hopping

@daringfireball “Adobe used to be a bastion of best practices for developers to follow.” Is this sarcasm? I remember Adobe being a nightmare to uninstall back in the Mac Classic/OS 8 days.

@Gte to this day they still make ATX boxes and NONE of them are this will designed.
I thought the “smurf” box looked dumb then and looks dumb now, but I’m flabbergasted by the fact that nobody took this design and ran with it.
dunno why these integrated Bluesky/Mastodon clients bug me so much… I guess like going to a combination pizza hut taco bell, and ordering items off each menu? or mixing beer and wine?
Like… they're different communities, just cool off and enjoy them for what they are.

@jensimmons@front-end.social I’m still sort of pretending to understand grid. I just throw around values until something works. No idea what minmax() means.
