Funny thing. I had a similar situation. I made the joke and the person it was intended for liked it, but other people heard and I had to admit that I overstepped. But live and comment section are different

So, we end up back at your original point. Obama's plan was a huge step forward and could haven lead to real progress. Too bad Donnie had a bad day and blew it all up.

A father takes his five year old to the high school principal and says that he'd like to enroll him. The principal says that little John is goign to have to prove he can handle the work. Principal writes an algebra problem and shows it to the lad. John answers it without using a pencil. He asks some history and political questions. John nails them all. Turns to the father. "This last question is to see if he has the emotional maturity we expect of our students. "Johnny, what's a four letter word that ends in U-N-T and means a woman?" "Aunt." "Congratulations. Johnny can come to high school." As they walk home, dad says to Johnny, "I'm so proud of you. I know I would have messed up that last question"

It’s 2026 and any talk of political labels outside an academic setting is useless. Hitler wasn’t a Socialist; North Korea isn’t a Democratic Republic; the Chinese Communist Party has numerous billionaires. Pick actual candidates and vote for them without tying yourself in knots over what they call themselves. Second, stop pretending there’s some giant ‘Left’ majority in the US. Mamdani won NYC with 51% of the vote; Harris got 65%. She got more total votes and a higher percentage than the guy who called himself a Socialist. I like Mamdani, and I voted for him, but if he gets re-elected it’ll be because he’s a savvy pol, not because of some Left wave.

Don't be silly. Goldfinger was a bald billionaire who was obsessed with gold; who cheated at golf; who was buddies with a sinister Korean; who wanted to destroy the US economy to make himself richer. Trump isn't technically bald.

All Trump had to do in Covid was make one speech. “I am not a scientist or a doctor. I am a smart businessman who has hire the best people to cope with this situation. Just do what my friend Dr Fauci says and we’ll be fine.” He’d have been reelected by a landslide.

Gut reaction? “Big Trouble In Little China.” I know there are better movies, but this is my favorite. Magic and gangsters, a dimwit hero, cheesy dialog, really good fight scenes, and a really hot actress. Every time I watch it I feel like I’m 14 again.

There’s a saying in US politics. “The Democrats fall in love and the Republicans fall in line.” Obama, Jimmy Carter, and Bill Clinton were all great speakers who could connect with voters at a personal level. Gore, Hillary Clinton, and the other losing candidates never had that spark. There were a lot of “Never Trump” GOPs who shut up and fell in line once he got the nomination. Lindsay Graham said Trump was terrible, then turned around and kissed his feet repeatedly.

Three things. In the first minute the narrator says that it’s too early to define it, then spews for another quarter hour. Second, back in the day it was called ‘Dada’ or ‘surrealism.’ Third, read author Tanith Lee or the Dr. Strange comics drawn by Steve Ditko.

Or, just get people to vote the way the GOPs do. Look up Jerry Falwell and his Moral Majority. Jerry was a televangelist who grabbed the GOP by the grassroots. He used his extensive mailing list to find the small local GOP clubs that decide who is going to be the next sheriff or country clerk. If there'd been twenty people at the last meeting, Jerry's folks would show up with fifty.

New Yorker here to translate. Manhattan is almsot all green except for a sliver on 5th Avenue near Central Park. That’s the priciest area. Most of the rest of the borough is pretty pricey. even Harlem apartments are getting expensive, now that it’s being gentrified. Most of the red areas aren’t particularly pricey and certainly aren’t considered high class or exclusive. The bright red area all the way at the bottom left is the South Shore of Staten Island. I once met a woman who taught Art History at Staten Island College. She told me that many of her students had never made the trip into Manhattan to visit the Metropolitan Museum, one of the top museums in the world.

So, you think he should cut off the one line of communication? I don’t think that’s the smart play at all. Jeffries is already hated by people on both sides. He won his home district primary so he has room to operate. Dealing with someone as stupid and as powerful as Trump isn’t easy. You can’t unblock a sewer without getting dirty. If it means we get a working FDA and CDC now, I’m all for it.

Basically, it’s up to all of us to educate people whenever we get the chance. Here are three stories I have been repeating for years. Back in 1968, old school Communists and anarchists, the folks who’d actually gone to Spain to fight Franco and been blacklisted, were telling people to vote for Humphrey. To a lot of young voters then Humphrey looked as bad as Nixon. To the oldtimers, Nixon was one of the people who’d helped kill Ethel Rosenberg. They knew Nixon was evil, and they were proved right. Second. A lot of people point to Martin Luther King as a saint. They don’t look past the public persona and see that he was a shrewd political operator who strategically timed his actions. Rosa Parks wasn’t the first woman to refuse to give up her seat on a public bus, but she was the one they chose to rally around. One of King’s top aides was Bayard Ruskin, a gay man. King knew about the raw deal LGBTQ+ people had, but he also knew that America wasn’t ready for that conversation. Third. Frederick Douglas was an escaped slave. His speeches and books had made him famous. He had a chance to back a candidate who was storng for Abolition. Instead, Douglas backed Lincoln, who was more committed to saving the Union. Douglas gambled that it was better to win and be at the table than it was to lose and have no influence at all.
