SPP 2299 Research & Future Directions
About 60 international researchers from 12 nations and 30 institutions, including many from coral reef countries, met @unibremen@wisskomm.social and @MARUM@wisskomm.social to discuss tropical coral records of climate change and environmental stress. The meeting was organized by the @dfg_public@wisskomm.social funded Priority Programme "Tropical Climate Variability & Coral Reefs" #SPP2299 @ClimateReefs@wisskomm.social, which aims to improve our understanding of tropical marine climate variability and its impacts on coral reef ecosystems in a warming world
The "Meeting & Status Seminar 2025" of the @dfg_public@wisskomm.social #SPP2299 Priority Programme "Tropical Climate Variability & Coral Reefs" took place last week in Bremen, Germany.
We were more than 50 participants from 28 national and international institutions.

Thanks to everyone who joined our Meeting & Status Seminar 2025 - It was such a mix of minds and experiences. It was not just about presentations - It was about connecting ideas, perspectives, and people. Events like this remind us why we do research: To explore, to question, and to grow - Together
Have you been wondered what the Challenges & Aims of the @dfg_public@wisskomm.social Priority Programme ‘Tropical Climate Variability & Coral Reefs’ #SPP2299 are? Have a look at our video!
SPP 2299 Challenges and Aims
Our #SPP2299 scientists are at #EGU25 in Vienna this week, presenting their research and discussing their ideas with geoscientists from all over the world.

New Paper Alert!
Check out a recently published study around on decadal oscillations in the world's largest oxygen-deficient zone. This research, by Nicolas Duprey from MPI for Chemistry, uses nitrogen isotopes in corals skeletons to understand natural climate variability of the Pacific ODZ.
Welcome to all our new followers! We thought it would be a good time to reintroduce our programme, and as part of World Science Day for Peace and Development yesterday we published a blog that does just this!
As climate change impacts become harder to ignore, initiatives like the DFG Priority Programme “Tropical Climate Variability & Coral Reefs” SPP 2299) are more relevant than ever. SPP 2299 researchers look into Earth’s recent and distant past to understand and protect tropical ecosystems.
