I just got a new pencil case from Nash Packs that has now taken over my afternoon.

I am having far too much fun trying to decide which eight pens/pencils I should place in the main pockets.

Today has been IRC day!
I finally got around to setting up an IRC server with IRCv3 support: ergochat. Configuration was very sensible. So far seems to be running well. I've got The Lounge set up as a web interface too. The IRCv3 features are very nice, especially getting chat backlog on connection and multiple client support.
Both are on the same domain, and Caddy is the proxy for all HTTP(s) on the server. To keep the TLS for the IRCd up-to-date, I have a separate container that syncs the files from Caddy to ergo.
I'm trying a new desktop client: Halloy, as a replacement for poor old IRSSI, which has no support for IRCv3 yet.
On mobile I'm trying Igloo. The multiple client support means I can have the browser, desktop app, and mobile app all connected to the IRC server without having to run pounce/znc.

Couple of #SimonStålenhag books have just arrived. I've been meaning to get the set for a while now.
I've only got about half way through "Things From The Flood", and I'm already fascinated by the lore. The vagabonds are great! One of them is featured on the book cover. Shame they've all been sent of to be demolished 😔

@mhoye@cosocial.ca I worked on a fairly substantial project in Rust using prost and tonic. I had to make a few contortions to facilitate testing services. We had all the proto files and generated implementations in a single crate for ease, and had a build script that massaged the code that the tonic-build crate generated. Then each service had its own crate to provide implementation, which kept things fairly isolated.
Whilst generally it all worked well, with no significant issues, there were type-system annoyances with protobuf itself: like dealing with Options, enums were annoying, and so on.

@arstechnica@mastodon.social Seems that Crunchyroll have been turning against their customers somewhat. I was sorry to learn about their loss of subtitle quality last year.

@futurebird@sauropods.win I absolutely had to find out what a “hell ant” was, and they’re fascinating creatures. They really do have some wonderful names too, like “Dhagnathos autokrator”, and “Dilobops bidentata”. Dilobops? 😁
Seems that naming animals after people is more common than I imagined. I found “Ceratomyrmex ellenbergeri”, which Wikipedia tells me is a patronym for Sieghard Ellenberger who… had the collection or something. Does not seem as wholesome davidbowiei 😔
