There’s a recurring joke that leaving Windows and installing Linux somehow turns you into a ‘blonde girl.’
The joke assumes a straight line between software, identity, and stereotype. Real life is messier, and quieter.
I was AFAB. Before I had any interest in labels, I was interested in systems: how they’re set up, how they fail, how much freedom they allow once they’re running. Identity wasn’t a theory yet; it was background noise.
Around twelve, I installed Kubuntu. Not as a manifesto, just pure curiosity. Blue interface, fewer interruptions, a sense that the machine finally stayed out of my way. Around that same period, I cut my hair short and said something simple and unadorned: I’m a guy. No audience, no script.
Years passed the way they usually do, gradually. I’m almost eighteen now. My name and pronouns align with me. I wear a binder and have a short hair. I draw a Linux webcomic.
I once thought I liked Windows because it was blue. What I actually liked was structure without coercion, customization without punishment.
Linux didn’t rewrite my gender.
It just kept functioning while I figured the rest out.
Sincerely, Bashak 💙
ÇELİŞKİ HARİTASI
- Kanıt vs. Etiket
- İddia ortaya atılıyor → etiket yapıştırılıyor → hüküm veriliyor.
- Oysa doğru akış: iddia → kanıt → bağlam → değerlendirme. Etiket, kanıtın yerine geçince adalet değil, hız kazanılıyor.
- Bireysel Sorumluluk vs. Toplu Suçlama
- Tekil eylem → tüm bir kesime genelleniyor.
- Başka başlıklarda aynı genelleme “ayrımcılık” diye reddediliyor. İlke, konuya göre değişiyorsa ilke değildir.
- Hassasiyet vs. Seçicilik
- Bazı durumlarda dil, özen ve hassasiyet zirvede.
- Benzer şiddette başka durumlarda dil anında sertleşiyor, genellemeler normalleşiyor. Seçici hassasiyet, güvenilirliği aşındırır.
- Adalet Arayışı vs. Linç Mekaniği
- Amaç hesap sormak → yöntem kalabalık tepkisi ve hız.
- Süreç atlanınca sonuç “rahatlama” olabilir ama adalet üretmez. Adalet, prosedür ve doğrulama ister.
- Bilgi vs. Gürültü
- Birincil kaynak yerine ekran görüntüleri ve ikinci el anlatımlar dolaşıyor.
- Zincir zayıfken kanaat güçlü. Gürültü arttıkça hata payı katlanır.
- Risk Yönetimi vs. Korku Ekonomisi
- Belirsizlikte temkin yerine en kötü varsayım standart hale geliyor.
- “Ya doğruysa?” refleksi, “kanıt nerede?” sorusunu bastırıyor. Korku, muhakemenin yerini almamalı.
- İlke vs. Sonuç Odaklılık
- “Doğru sonuca ulaşıyorsak yöntem önemli değil” yaklaşımı.
- Oysa hatalı yöntem bugün işine yarasa da yarın herkese karşı döner. Yöntem sürdürülebilir değilse sonuç kalıcı değildir
ÇERÇEVE ÖNERİSİ
- Suç ve zarar: sıfır tolerans.
- Değerlendirme: kanıt + bağlam + süreç.
- Dil: etiket değil, eylem odaklı.
- Kapsam: bireysel sorumluluk, genellemeden kaçınma.
- Tutarlılık: ilke, konuya göre değişmez.
Kısa versiyon: Etiket ≠ kanıt. Hız ≠ adalet. Genelleme ≠ analiz.
Doğruyu savunurken yöntemi bozarsak, sonunda doğru da savunulamaz hale gelir.

Well, first day of my Istanbul trip, heading to a devcon soon. A computer/lan party and some troubleshooting with my little cousin. He is on windows and I'm on linux (by the way, I use ubuntu but "kool" and blue one). Ive never been at Istanbul at least 10+ years.
