Q3: On that theme, one of my reasons for making is I 'Make to Learn’. How do you go about learning new things/skills? A3: Depends what it is. I really like just giving something a go and seeing what happens! However, that’s not always wise, especially if I’m working on the bike! So I tend to do some research, which could be books, online reading or videos. Alongside all the crap on YouTube, there are so many people who are willing to share their knowledge. When I fixed the washing machine a few months back, I twice watched a video on it and then successfully did it! #makershour @MakersHour@cupoftea.social

Q4: I have also worked in education (hence the learning theme). How would you go about teaching your creative/maker skills to other interested people? A4: I spent from 2018 to July last year training new entrants to my department so have some experience in this! My view on it is that how *I* want to train is irrelevant, it’s how *they* want to learn that’s important. A trainer should adapt their style to suit the learner. I’ve taught specific topics in multiple different ways, yes, I have my preference, but it’s not about me. #makershour @MakersHour@cupoftea.social

A2: Trying to stay away from work learning… I learnt that if you can’t find the Ikea part you want to replace because they don’t make them anymore, you can force a threaded bar into it and bolt it in place! I built this TV Unit five years ago. It was a glue and screw job, with the screwheads visible. I used clear wax as a finish.

It needed a spruce up, but I decided to hide the screwheads with dowels whilst I was at it.

After giving the whole thing a sand down, I waxed it. Decided to go for an ‘Old Pine’ wax rather than clear wax. Really pleased with how it came out.

A5: Putting my issues with holidays aside, I’d go to either the place they filmed Handmade: Britain's Best Woodworker in the Brecon Beacons, so I could use their amazing workshop or to where they film The Woodland Workshop in the New Forest so I could make and hang out with the team as they seem like a great bunch. #MakersHour @MakersHour@cupoftea.social

Okay-ish run this morning. I started more new meds yesterday, so took it steady and stayed close to home.

Started to struggle at ~3.5 miles, so headed home. Tough last mile though.

After the success of refreshing my TV Unit, next up was my vinyl shelf. Again, this was a glue and screw job from a few years ago.

All the screws are now hidden with dowels and it’s had the same Old Pine wax applied.

Q3: If there was to be a ‘kit of parts’ for sale to recreate one of your projects, what project might that be, and how big would the box need to be for the kit? A3: Hmmmm. I’ll resort to old faithful! My Bat’leth. The box would be slightly bigger than the frame, probably 5ft x 2ft? Can’t remember the exact dimensions! It’d be about 2” deep too. The sheet metal, Perspex and back would stack nicely. All the corner bits and mountings would tuck inside. #MakersHour @MakersHour

Tough run this morning. Very hilly, for me anyway! Trail sections were muddy which was fun!

Mile 3 was a horrid uphill section. I walked a fair bit of that.

There were other stops and walking sections, but I’m okay with it!

I picked up another railway lantern last week. This one is a general purpose lantern rather than a signal lantern.

It didn’t need much doing to it other than repairing the locking pin, a clean and a polish.

Spent this morning tinkering with the bike.

Needed a new tyre so had that fitted - it looks a lot healthier than the old one (which I forgot to take a picture of!).

Did some cleaning whilst the wheel was off, some bits are just easier to get to when the wheel is off!
