“U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson said, ‘We’re not at war right now. We’re four days into a very specific, clear mission.’ The best response to that came from the Federalist’s Sean Davis: ‘It’s not a war unless it comes from the war region of France, otherwise it’s just sparkling combat.’”

@ryan2one3@mstdn.ca maybe so. But, it would be better for these programs because they get a better chance to showcase and participate at the highest level of the sport to grow the interest in their own markets, which we all eventually can benefit from. As far as blowout games go, there will be a few more perhaps, but those teams will also play the other low tier teams in the group, which will likely be more competitive contests. As far as what I enjoy, watching, I might be a little different than others by all means, but the score isn’t necessarily my sole reason for watching a game. If it’s a close game between the US - Canada / Sweden - Finland, etc, the score is of course important, but I can also just sit and enjoy watching talent and teams that I normally don’t get to see, and in all honesty, blowout games tend to tell you a lot about the fabric of teams and players - attitudes, handling success/adversity, etc., which I find interesting in any given tournament.

@evacide Musk and his companies are under 34-something investigations and complaints for fraud and tax evasion by a number of various government agencies. He’s making sure that evidence is shredded and threatening agencies terminated, such as Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, Federal Trade Commision, Consumer Safety Product Commission, Financial branch of the FBI, FCC, FDA, etc. Other agencies that have stood in his way in the past will likely be targets are the SEC, NASA, and whatever areas of the military that have not granted Tesla contracts for either cars, batteries, or robotics. Now, if you look at this list of agencies and consider the consumer protection part specifically, I think we can agree that lots of companies and corporations stand a lot to gain here, including those who are selling you news and hire “journalists.”

This is pretty cool. t will take a miracle for the Dems to capture The Federal Senate, but then again, I think this was thought of as such as well. https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/5716988-democrats-score-upset-texas/ #State #Senate #Texas #Upset #Democrats #SpecialElection

Trump makes his masters’ biddings while the rest of us argue about the shiny objects and humanitarian losses. The clear winner of this war is the American oil industry. Why? They don't need the Strait of Hormuz to reach the customer. • The Export Advantage: As a net oil exporter, U.S. shale producers in the Permian Basin are watching WTI skyrocket 37% in just one week—climbing from $67 to over $91. • The Players: Domestic majors like ExxonMobil and Chevron are seeing profit margins explode because they are selling domestic oil at "war-risk" prices without the shipping risks of the Middle East. • The Trump administration is already moving to cut "red tape"—including a move yesterday to roll back $6 billion in offshore drilling financial requirements. With oil at $91, they don't need much encouragement. The financial incentive to drill is the highest it’s been since the 2022 energy crisis, and “we the people” will pay for it, while the Iranian people will die for it. If we set aside innocent people’s suffering, which means nothing to MAGA cultists (only their personal suffering is relevant to them), not even the most stubborn MAGA cultists can argue against that regular folks won't see a dime of the oil industry’s record profits but rather add to it. Not since the 1970s or the start of the Ukraine war in 2022 has oil spiked with this kind of velocity, and we are already seeing it at the pump—the national average jumped 27 cents this week to $3.25. It won’t stop there; it’ll hit our energy bills, travel, and the cost of all goods - cost of living. It’s worth considering this next time there’s a right wing “outrage” over government subsidies to build a couple of solar parks, or when someone suggests that these oil companies should pay more taxes to finance the military power, deaths and injuries, infrastructure, and security that yield and protect their record-breaking profits, which are now paid for by our tax dollars… or when the pro-lifers wring their hands.

I think I need a little help here. I just watched the Vancouver Canucks play St. Louis. I have many questions, but one in particular:

Vancouver has Curtis Douglas, a center who is 6’ 9” and weighs 242 pounds… that’s fully grown. He certainly isn’t the most agile and quick skated fella in the league, but he has reach, wins battles, and seemingly some capable mitts. Why is he not parked in front of the net on all the Canucks’ PP’s, surrounded by two snipes, a PF, and Buium on the point again?

Binnington looked like he was practicing for his future days of playing catch with his son in the backyard pretty much anytime the Canucks wristed off a shot at him with clear sight. 🥱

While hosting a younger contingency to enhance dating life for those who are normally responsible for his well being, we watched Disney’s “The Jungle Book.” Eventually we get to King Louie…

I guess I will never again be able to see or hear Trump without thinking of this film.

Oh, ooh-bee-doo. 😒

@hugo A less foreign concept of what you’re saying here is that when a citizen is provided healthcare, insurance, education, etc., and it’s not up to the employer, to provide that, eh “benefits,” the workforce can focus on negotiating its hourly pay and work conditions. Yet, so many conservative leaning workers cheer when we hear about deregulation and “trickle down economics. What they’re cheering for, and celebrating, is decreased negotiating power, a cut in total compensation (as these regulations/fees are to help protect the employee and invest in his/her PTO, retirement, etc); in other words, they are cheering getting a pay cut. I don’t want to go as far as calling conservative voters unintelligent, but they are definitely unlucky when they’re thinking.

@mike@thecanadian.social I’m not a Leafs fan per se, so I may be speaking from an angle of ignorance, but I suspect a number one pick for Toronto isn't the same blessing it is for other franchises. Toronto is arguably the toughest market in the world for a young player; the media and fanbase demand immediate, flawless production. In a market like that, it might be better to build through trades for veterans who have the skin to handle that level of scrutiny. Otherwise, you risk bringing in a top-tier talent only to have the city's expectations suck the oxygen out of the room before they get a chance to take a breath and find their stride.
