I'm seeing a _rash_ of polls ending... Did my instance just have a backlog of poll messages or did I participate in 10 polls that all ended in the last 10 minutes?

I enjoy reading, storytelling, learning, and solving problems. I write software for a living.
Not that I'm _drowning_ in followers or anything but it's so much simpler right now to review requests than it is to block bots. <3

This is the rollout of the AI feature on Echo. You can ask it to disable the AI features and it will comply.
However I've noticed a marked decrease in useful responses since switching my device to the default mode.
I strongly suspect they are actively reducing the usability of the default mode.

What folks who use LLMs to build websites don't realize they're saying is "I would like to build something that already exists and put my name on it," because that's all LLMs can do.
They can't innovate, they can't _generate_ new ideas, they only aggregate and degrade information over time.
Ted Chiang (https://www.theatlantic.com/philosophy/2026/06/no-artificial-intelligence-is-not-conscious/687378/) calls LLMs a JPEG of the internet. And that's pretty apt.
It's an algorithm of pre-existing information. That's it. And it's costly as hell.

Yeeeeaaaah.
We're literally... Literally the worst.
There's not a deal our government has made with Native nations that has been broken.

I used to feel slightly paranoid when chat/video services would ask, "How was the video/audio quality?"
I'm now completely convinced this is used as a metric to throttle bandwidth on future calls when a sufficient number of participants register the call as "good" quality.
The users would literally _tune_ the bandwidth over time to the lowest bearable quality.
I don't even _feel_ crazy for thinking this anymore.
Everything is awful.

Every morning I feel _compelled_ to turn on ClaudeCode and tell it "build some context around the current branch" just so my employer doesn't let me go in the immediate.
It's _insane_.

I dunno that I would've taken Liam to task over it _however_ I make a living building and maintaining web-apps.
Full on legacy PHP apps and... Naw, man, it's not that big of a deal. It's _not_ rocket science. So... Yeah, yer gonna catch some flak on the interwebs for getting hoity-toity because you _built_ and _maintain_ a blog with adds.
Maybe don't get uppity. Maybe don't excuse all the harm "AI" causes.

EVERY...
SINGLE...
PART...
Of this training is about creating...
DETERMINISM...
Where it _CANNOT_ exist.
The logical fallacy here is _SO_ wildly significant, the literal _crux_ of the entire discussion around _usefulness_ or _usability_.
This is so wildly exhausting.
This is expecting the results from decades of learning and practice in a given skill from a machine that is _incapable_ of providing consistent results.
(I'm haven't even gotten to the theft and environmental violence.)

The wife and I broke out the guitar (which she can play and I am learning-ish), the mandolin (which she can play and I cannot), and the electric piano (which I can play and she cannot) and we played music together tonight.
We learned a few melodies from old nostalgic music. It turns out some of our favorite music is _wildly_ simple.
I think we might do this again. This was a _really_ nice evening.
Hope you all managed to have a nice evening too! G'night FediFriends! <3

So much, this.
The ole' truth is stranger than fiction thing.
It _seems_ like a worship of the machine but it's obfuscating a worship of restricting wealth to the already wealthy.
If we weren't all exhausted we should be furious, all the time.

OMG... I'd nearly forgotten about the Quest for Glory games... One of the several sequels is where I stole my favoritest ever statement about _water_.

OH MY GOD... I'm stuck in a "training/foundational" class for AI this morning...
We've already started with it's literally non-deterministic so how do we "wrangle" that?
Fuck off, that's how. Fuck right off.
Determinism is _fundamental_ to what we're fucking building.

MARCO.
I, in fact, do not find it difficult. Being an adult and having an understanding there exist nations and international community beyond our shores, I do not struggle to imagine the world that exists. I have, in fact, _seen_ some of it. I prefer it to the hellscape you have deigned to build for your monied masters and the Orange buffoon.
In short, Marco, I hope you fucking choke on your own tongue and die.

Hear, fucking, hear.
Talk to me about yer favorite phylum, fountain pen, 43-lens magnifying glasses for working on the world's smallest jewelry, flush-able toilets, magma vents, Oort clouds, the origins of words, the lbs/sq.in required to press ink into handmade paper, or anything else that makes yer liver quiver.
When I need a break, I'll let you know. Otherwise, let's hang out.

I'm just gonna go out on a limb and suggest that it's actually a reference to the... Face-hugger alien from the Alien movies.
And in that context... Oh... It's appropriate, idinit?
You gotta remember these 'techbros' think they're clever. They also think they're the only ones to connect snippets of cultural context to current events (yes, they believe they invented memes, memeplexes, memetics, etc.)
They're idiots. They just can't tell because they're the only ones in the room.

Just sat through a three hour class where parsing log files was a recommendation for AI/LLM usage.
...
Or... And hear me out... I could just use grep, yeah?

An AI review will _always_ miss intent.
It cannot infer intent even when it _reads_ like it's inferred intent.
But it sure will generate some words for ya. <3

Yeah, I'm not suggesting the messages have _no_ value towards improving a service.
I'm just saying when a company like Microsoft does it... I don't trust the motive is _improving_ user experience.
