Rüppell's Vulture Gyps rueppelli Palm Oil Detectives

The Rüppell's Vulture is an enigmatic avian marvel soaring the African and European skies. Their powerful wings carry them aloft on streams of air to altitudes of 11,000 metres. From far above they scan the endless landscapes for sustenance. These remarkable carrion cleaners pose no threat to humans and only eat dead animals. They now teeter on the brink of extinction, fewer than 22,000 individuals remain alive due to the depletion of their prey species, human and wildlife conflict and palm oil

#Vultures! In the wetlands! #BirdCallOut I was at the back of my little bog after releasing a few bats the other day just after sunset, when I noticed two of my local black vultures having a bit of a cuddle atop a tree snag at the edge of the water. Volume up for some swamp sounds. 🖤 I love that my backyard corner of the world is an overlap of black vultures and turkey vultures.
