🚨📸 This one's genuinely disturbing.🚨📸 Flock Safety's license plate cameras are in over 6,000 communities, marketed as a crime fighting tool. Turns out at least 50 police officers nationwide have been accused of using it to track women in their personal lives, no warrant needed, in 46 of those cases through Flock specifically. One Georgia police chief ran hundreds of searches on a woman's car over a year, then told her "don't worry I'm not tracking you or some weird stalker shit" when confronted. She said it herself: "He watched every single move I made." The system logs searches, but those logs are usually only checked after a complaint. There's no federal rule requiring a search be tied to an actual case, and policy is left up to roughly 18,000 individual agencies. A camera network sold as safety infrastructure is quietly enabling exactly the kind of surveillance it claimed to prevent. 🔗 https://www.techspot.com/news/113325-dozens-police-officers-accused-using-license-plate-cameras.html #Privacy #Surveillance #Flock #TechNews #Stalking

"Emma* (not her real name) thought she’d finally found a way out. Late one night, while her partner was asleep, she spent twenty minutes searching for a family lawyer and reading through a domestic abuse support website, careful to close the tabs afterwards. Two days later, her partner brought it up. He knew which website she’d visited and exactly when. Emma had been careful to only ever use her own device, and she hadn’t noticed any new apps appear on her phone. What she didn’t know was that weeks earlier, during a few unattended minutes with her phone, he had opened the Chrome app and quietly signed it into a Google account of his own. From that moment on, every site she visited was being copied straight to his account, viewable from any device, anywhere in the world. Certo has received a growing number of reports describing exactly this scenario. Our research team investigated, and what we found is a strikingly simple technique that requires no hacking skill, no malware, and no spyware app of any kind — just a few unattended minutes with someone’s phone and a feature that Google built for convenience." https://www.certosoftware.com/insights/cyberstalkers-exploiting-chrome-sync-to-spy/ #CyberStalking #CyberSecurity #Surveillance #Google #Chrome
