Perhaps more people are planning for retirement than it seems. If you use the TFSA you are tax sheltered on withdrawal and there is no mandatory withdrawal after 71 - unlike RRSPs. It's the retirement vehicle I would suggest to someone comfortably living within their means. I can see government concern though, if people aren't deferring taxes, it loses a revenue stream as people retire. We used RRSPs like good little Boomers/Gen X and we'll be converting to RRIFs in a higher tax bracket than we were ever in when we were working. I look at it as a mark of financial planning success and I don't resent paying taxes but I would have kept a lot more in taxable investment accounts. #RetirementSavinghttps://www.moneysense.ca/save/retirement/with-pensions-declining-canadians-must-plan-their-own-retirement/
