Glad to share our new study at "Nature Communications" which resulted from several workshops on the early warning signs of mass extinctions and coordination of macroevolutionary vulnerability and the states of carbon cycle and temperatures. https://www.nature.com/articles/s41467-026-75655-9 🧪⚒️ #Geology #Paleobio #EvoBio

Transitions between persistent climate–carbon regimes coincide with elevated Phanerozoic biosphere vulnerability - Nature Communications

Earth’s climate over the past 539 million years (the Phanerozoic Eon) occupied a few long-lived “mega-climate” regimes. This study shows that life was most vulnerable to extinction during the relatively sharp transitions between these stable states.

"appearance of the new apex predator cf. Saurosphargidae relatively soon after the [P\Tr] extinction event coincides with the reappearance of predatory cephalopods and precedes the full ecological and taxonomic recovery of benthic groups in the Dolomites" https://tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/02724634.2026.2685335 🧪⚒️ #Paleobio

New insights into the extinction and recovery of marine vertebrates across the Permian–Triassic mass extinction event in the Dolomites, Southern Alps, Italy

The impact of the Permian–Triassic mass extinction on marine vertebrates is incompletely understood due to their scarce fossil record. To better understand marine vertebrate extinction and recovery...

"...results contrast with the common view that the geo-logically stable Proterozoic Era experienced little eukaryotic evolutionary innovation and indicate that all current supergroups were already established in the Mesoproterozoic." 🧪⚒️ #Geology #Paleobiohttps://www.pnas.org/doi/epdf/10.1073/pnas.2600283123
