#MinCup26 Quarterfinal 4
Linked by archaic translations and mineralogical misunderstandings, the quarterfinals are ending in hexagons with vivid pyromorphite vs writeable graphite.

It’s a rich red start to the quarterfinals as two components of brass face off with zinc ore #Sphalerite is up against copper-rich #Cuprite.

#MinCup26 Round 2 Match 6:
It's a pair of soft, heavy lead minerals as vivid hexagonal phosphate #Pyromorphite is against spiralling rolled sheets of #Cylindrite.

ngl I'm voting #Stichtite to get back for what happened to #Asagiite (also, it's kinda cool in its own right—just like asagiite!)

Both colourful yet opposite in almost every other way, it’s abundant and hard #Quartz against rare and very soft #Stichtite.

Anthorite can be found in lunar & cometary rocks, but Sphalerite gets my vote with cool optical/electrical properties & its role in art history as main zinc ore. Zn has been used in brass & bronze for centuries. Since the 18th century it was used to make ZnO pigments & etching, plates. 🧵1/2 #MinCup26 #scicomm #artHistory #minerals
Winning by just 11 out of 1705 votes, primary mineral #Skutterudite is continuing on to represent cobalt and arsenic in #MinCup26 Round 2.
While beautiful and beloved, weathering product #Erythrite didn’t quite make it.
