Brilliant Hope
What we thought
was a beacon
shining bright
upon the hill
hid the train
careening
down tracks
made rusty
and crooked
by cut corners
and corruption
unchecked
but with every
protest made
whistle blown
and hand raised
hope kindles new
brilliance
against the dark.
